Philosophy of Science and Philosophy of Religion in Islam: Online Course and Reading Group

Philosophy of Science: The Central Issues by Martin Curd and Jan A. Cover
Philosophy of Religion in Islam: A Reader of Critical Sources by Rahim Acar and M. Cüneyt Kaya

The aim is to go through two fundamental texts, which are essential to the field of Islam and Science:

  • Philosophy of Science: The Central Issues, by Martin Curd and Jan A. Cover (1998), because it reviews the ideas and trends that serve as the philosophical basis of today's society.
  • Philosophy of Religion in Islam: A Reader of Critical Sources, by Rahim Acar and M. Cüneyt Kaya (2025), because it summarizes the core tenets of the Islamic faith.

The goal is to critically read the philosophy of science from an Islamically informed viewpoint, while exploring how modern scientific paradigms might interplay with classical Islamic philosophy.

We endeavour to go through these two texts, one chapter per month, alternating between the two. The Burhan Institute will produce short video summaries of each reading, followed by an online scholarly discussion open to the public.

Subscribe to know when the next discussion is taking place. Previous videos and discussion recordings will be available on Burhan's YouTube channel.
